Free Adobe Reader is needed to view and print our notebooking pages.
I find creating notebooking pages specifically for language arts a little trickier than most subjects. Creating notebooking pages for other subjects is in itself a language arts activity - collecting and gathering information, using language skills and art skills to put it all together.
Our specific Language Arts Notebook(s) consists of several sections:
*Spelling, Phonics, and Dictation
*Copywork
(click here for article on copywork and here for our copywork products)
*Grammar and Formal Writing Practice
*Reading Log and Reading Test Record.
We also keep pages for literature and poetry in other notebooks
as they apply to subjects like the Bible, history, and science.
In the spelling section, we keep a record of spelling rules, spelling word lists, a copy of our phonograms, lists of challenging words, and a copy of each week's dictation copywork. In the copywork section, we keep current copywork that does not go in a different notebook. When the copywork is for another subject, we move it to the appropriate notebook. For grammar/formal writing, we keep our "helps charts", outlines, first drafts, and finished writing pieces. Our "helps charts" include prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, banned words, writing structure and style charts. I have provided blanks of these pages. If you use the Institute for Excellence in Writing curriculum, you will find a banned word chart below.

Free Grammar Notebooking Pages
We do not do much formal grammar instruction in our home (at least for now). This subject is covered "naturally" with our copywork, dictation, and consistent writing for notebooks. We have several writing handbooks that we use as a reference when needed. However, we do own the program Easy Grammar and pull it out occasionally for specific lessons and practice.
However, one of our notebooking moms asked if I could put together some pages to help her children build a grammar notebook. (She also uses Easy Grammar.) These notebooking templates could be used to record what you are learning as you study the parts of speech, capitalization, and punctuation rules. Click on the links below to download each section needed. If you would like more pages with different headings, just let me know.

Notebook Pages for Reading
The pages we keep for reading are quite simple. 1.) We keep a log of all of the independent books the kids read each year. 2.) For comprehension practice, we use the McCall Crabbs testing book that was recommended to us by Spell to Write and Read (our spelling/reading program). I am not convinced that this is a necessary activity, but the kids seem to enjoy taking these tests a couple of times a week and they last less than 5 minutes.
